A medium box this week with yummy red otway potatoes, sweet pea prouts, eggplant and more!

Large Box

In the large box this week there is Coriander,Lettuce, Onions, Otway Red Potatoes, Pak Choy, Sweet Potato Leaves, San Marzano Tomatoes, Snow Pea Sprouts, Silverbeet, Eggplant, Tatsoi and Tarragon. Fruits are Bananas, Oranges and Avocados.

Medium Box

The Medium box has Coriander, Eggplant, Lettuce, Onions, Otway Red Potatoes, Pak Choy, Sweet Potato Leaves, San Marzano Tomatoes, Snow Pea Sprouts, Tatsoi and Tarragon. Fruits are Bananas, Oranges and Avocados.

Small Box

The small box has Lettuce, Roma Tomatoes, Onions, Otway Red Potatoes, Sweet Potato Leaves, Snow Pea Sprouts, Zucchini, Corn and Tatsoi. Fruits are Bananas, Oranges and Avocados.

What’s in season

The tomatoes are still coming along nicely, as are the gourmet potatoes. Our farmers are working hard to keep water up to the leafy greens but they are doing well. Tatsoi and pak choy are still the pick of the crops when I inspected the farms this week. The onions have finally dried off and we should have a good supply for some time. The bad news is that the price of broccoli and cauliflower has gone through the roof! Market demands due to lack of produce and all that. Rita has some beautiful tarragon and eggplants are starting to come on well. The extremely hot weather has been making it difficult for some lines of produce, so I am steering clear of some usual items and trialling others.

Direct from local Farmers

Matt and Sue are supplying us the gorgeous Otway red potatoes this week. They let us sample some earlier this week and they taste great! Neil is trucking us his brown onions and they will be a welcome relief to the quality we have had to put up with in the shops. Lins Organics are supplying us sweet pea sprouts which I have been promised they taste fantastic and will be a great addition to your salads this week. Lins are also bringing pak choy and Pink Coral lettuce. Wemor is providing the sweet potato leaves, San Marzano tomatoes with some silverbeet and eggplant. Rita is bringing us her Roma tomatoes, coriander, tatsoi and tarragon.

Recipe Ideas

Tatsoi, otherwise known as Chinese flat cabbage, rosette bok choy and spinach or spoon mustard is another super leafy dark green veggie that is rich in vitamins A, C and K and has high levels of calcium, potassium, phosphorous and iron.

Tatsoi is a dark green Asian salad green with a light white stalk, which grows in rosette-like bunches. Its thick leaves are mild in flavour a little like bok choy and could be described as tasting like a slightly mustardy Swiss chard. The stalks are creamy white a little sweeter in flavour.

Generally eaten raw, tatsoi is popular added to green salads but it can also be used in soups, stir fry’s, pastas, quiches – you name it! It’s certain to compliment almost any meal.
