Food Connect’s Reusable and Compostable Grocery Bags
“The bag fits everything in and is fantastic. No more hoarding cardboard boxes and having to haul them all in, that’s why I’m ordering another bag!” -Megan, Hurstville subscriber
While reusable shopping bags have been all the rage in the last few years, the majority will still end up in landfill and only exacerbate the damage on our environmental systems. But not these beauties!
For Food Connect, it is a priority that we are continuously minimising our environmental footprint. We believe we have a responsibility for the packaging we use and the effects on our environment. We are proud to put the Food Connect seal of approval on our new grocery bags! Because this bag is made from paper pulp, after living out its useful life, they will break down within 45 days.
Now you can carry your food with a good conscience!

Sourced from renewable forests, the raw paper pulp is stripped and cleaned, then twisted into the fibres for weaving into the sturdy material. The khaki colour and printed logo is created by using naturally-based, non-toxic dyes. Because the bags are made using such natural substances, they are fully compostable and biodegradable, the material will break down in an ideal compost environment within 45 days – about the same time as dry leaves! Microbes in the soil “eat” the paper, breaking the bags down into water, CO2 and biomass which can be safely absorbed back into the earth.
- This picture is from a study* charting the decomposition of our biodegradable grocery bag in comparison to a common reusable shopping bag made of polypropylene. The picture showcases the result of keeping both bags in a compost bin for 35 days. While the polypropylene bag looks quite recognisable, only the stitching thread of our bag remains and even that is on its way to breaking apart!
- A great bag with a light footprint on our planet for only $1! Perfect as an environmentally responsible gift (or gift bag) for friends and family!
